Tide Predictions

Captiva • Pine Island Sound • Galt Island

Captiva Island

  • Low tides in the mornings reveal expansive grass flats, perfect for Captiva shelling February treasures.
  • Incoming afternoon tides push fresh, bait-rich water into the mangroves.

Pine Island Sound

  • Focus on the deeper troughs and “potholes” during the lower tide cycles.
  • Low-tide sight fishing for Pine Island Sound redfish is at its seasonal peak.

Gulf Coast & Surrounding Areas

  • Mild surf conditions make for excellent beach-walking and shelling.
  • Watch for “negative” low tides following strong northwesterly winds.

Additional Local Tide Info & Moon, Sun & Astronomical Data

February New Moon:

  • Focus on early morning incoming tides for the best bite.

Full Snow Moon:

  • Expect higher high tides and lower low tides during the last week of the month.

Tactical Tip:

  • Night fishing around dock lights is highly productive during the full moon cycle.

Solar Influence:

  • Mid-day sun warms the shallow flats, often triggering a late afternoon feeding frenzy.

What It Means for Redfish Fishing

February is one of the most exciting months for targeting redfish in southwest Florida.

Where to find them:

  • Pine Island Sound redfish are currently huddling in deeper holes during the mornings.
  • As the sun warms the flats, they move onto the shallow grass to forage for crabs and shrimp.

Tides:

  • Lower tides concentrate fish in predictable locations, making them easier to spot.
  • Higher tides allow fish to push deep into the mangrove roots.

Water Quality:

  • High transparency allows for incredible sight-casting.
  • Use light fluorocarbon leaders (15-20lb) as the fish are more “line-shy” in clear winter water.

Conservation Tips:

  • Practice catch and release to preserve our beautiful local populations.
  • Handle fish with wet hands and keep them in the water as much as possible.

Wildlife Watch:

  • Manatees seeking warmer water in canals.
